A no-budget diaristic collage trajectory…..

Completed in 1994, shot on Super 8 and transferred to 16mm using a JK Optical Printer, this film documents in time-lapse the trajectory of the de Bruyn family’s road trip across North America from Vancouver to Boston and then back to Smithers in British Columbia in 1992. The use of text and animation at speed predicts the impact of digital technology on identity and daily life. This trip took place during the Blue Jays first baseball World Series win on October 24 1992, and the failure of the Charlottetown Accord referendum on the following day, October 25 1992. The soundtrack contains fragments of both these events, suggesting the triumph of spectacular sports and entertainment over issues of real political identity.
